Tigers lose a heartbreaker to New Mexico 4-3, set to play Gonzaga at 1:00pm

The Tigers had a tough day yesterday being on the losing end of a 4-3 battle with the #56 ranked Lobos.  As it always is, the doubles point was crucial in this loss.  After winning at #3 doubles and losing at #2 doubles, the Tigers had a big opportunity being up a break at #1, however the Lobos fought through it and got the point.  Singles was a battle in 5 of the 6 spots.  The Tigers lost at 1 and 6 and won at 2, 3, and 4 to set the stage for the deciding match at #5 where Sophomore Ben Mirkin was taking on Freshmen Andrew Van der Vyer.  The Lobo freshmen stepped up at 4-4 in the third to break Mirkin and after a long game battling cramps, closed out the Tigers.

Next up for the Tigers is Gonzaga.  The last WCC team the Tigers face this season until they enter the WCC officially this July.  Match time is at 1:00pm at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts.  Gonzaga is coming into the match 4-7 while the Tigers are now 10-5.  Be sure to follow live scoring of the Tigers versus Gonzaga on Twitter @PacificMtennis
